Sibley State Park Fall Color Report for 10-10-18
Prairie grasses are at their peak colors. Asters are adding a splash of color to the grasslands. Sumac is past its peak color but still showing some brilliant reds. Dogwood add a deep maroon in places. Ash and Basswood have shed most of their bronze colored foliage but offer a crunchy carpet along the hiking trails. Burr Oak have a few leaves beginning to turn but are mostly green. Sugar Maple trees are turning rapidly, from top down. Forest understory trees such as Ironwood are turning rapidly and displaying a variety of colors between yellow and bronze. The forest in general is taking on a lighter shade of green mixed with some yellows. Yellows of Cottonwood accent the shoreline of Lake Andrew.
