Fishing Report for 3-12-26

Late ice is typically one of the best times of the year to catch panfish. As the season winds down, fish begin moving into shallower water and often become much more active and willing to bite. If you’re able to get out on the lakes, focus on shallow areas where things are starting to come to life. Melting shoreline ice and runoff can bring in fresh water and oxygen, and early weed growth can attract hungry fish.

Fishing pressure over the past week or two has been fairly light since the game fish season closed on February 22. Access points around the area are becoming rough with the recent warm weather and shoreline melt. Walking is still possible on many lakes if you’re able to safely make it onto the ice, but conditions can change quickly this time of year.

There has been some sunfish and crappie activity reported on the northwest corner of Green Lake. Eagle Lake is producing a few sunfish in shallow water as well. Foot Lake has slowed down quite a bit as access has become more difficult and aeration holes are opening up more.

Aeration systems in the area have now been shut off, but large open water areas remain and are continuing to expand with the warm temperatures and wind. As always with late ice conditions, anglers should use extra caution and check ice conditions carefully before heading out.
