Fishing Report for 1-26-16

Ice fishing was popular this last weekend with many anglers getting their fish houses out for the first time. The ice is averaging 12-15 inches on most area lakes, which isn’t necessarily thick enough for those heavy trucks yet. Be cautious while you are out on the ice as ice thickness can vary greatly in different areas. Green Lake proved to be the most popular lake to try with many fish houses putting up camp across from O’Neil’s and on the northwest and the northeast ends of the lake. Most anglers report catching crappies and sunfish in those areas while the walleye catch has been found to be best in the deeper parts of the lake. The southern part of Long Lake has had some great walleye action during the later evening hours. Now’s a great time to be fishing for Northern Pike as they are being caught all over the county. Some lakes to try this week would be Green Lake, Long Lake, Diamond Lake, Big Kandiyohi Lake and Lake Florida. We have another gorgeous weekend ahead of us so stock up on your bait and head to the Willmar Lakes Area for some great fishing action!.
