Get hooked on fishing in the willmar lakes area!

Whether you catch and release, or fish to eat, you’re sure to enjoy the beautifully clear lakes of Kandiyohi County. With over 350 lakes, ponds, streams and the Crow River, the opportunities for angling enthusiasts are nearly endless.

But don’t just settle for fishing on one lake – try them all! Tap into your sense of adventure and experience the thrill of the chase by finding the area on a lake with the most fish or the largest fish.

Life’s too short to only fish on the weekends. So plan a week long adventure in the Willmar Lakes Area at one of our beautiful resorts or campgrounds. There’s nothing quite like fishing at the break of dawn and into the late evenings as the fish tend to be more active during these times.

Don’t have a fishing license yet for the 2023-2024 season? No problem! Grab a three-day (72-hour) license for just $14 for Minnesota residents or $36 for non-residents. Are you interested in going fishing with the little ones in your life? Children ages 15 and younger fish for free, and children ages 16 and 17 can fish all season for just $5. Buy a license now:

RISE and SHINE, It’s fishing time!

Don’t own a boat? Many of our lakes have great shore fishing opportunities and fishing piers waiting for you to enjoy. The most popular ones are located at Pirrotta Park on Green Lake, at Rau Park on Foot Lake near the County Fairgrounds, at Robbins Island Regional Park on Foot Lake, in Nest Lake under the Highway 23 bridge, and along the northeast shore of Ringo Lake just off of Highway 71.

Looking for more? The Willmar Lakes Area is home to a variety of businesses that rent out fishing boats and pontoons for you to enjoy searching for the fish throughout the entire lake, not just along the shores.
