Fishing Report for 10-16-18
Anglers have pulled 14-17 inch walleye from Minnetaga Lake in the past week along with some perch. Shore fishing has picked up on Willmar, Foot and Ringo lakes with both walleye and crappie being caught. Stick near the running water to find fish during the cooler fall days. The fall bite has turned on in the Willmar Lakes Area and this weekend looks to be perfect weather for fishing! Come and join us!

The fall walleye bite is inching closer each day. Anglers have pulled nice-sized walleye from the north end of Green Lake, Diamond Lake and Eagle Lake. Shore fishing along Willmar and Foot lakes has produced crappie and walleye for some. Those in search of walleye and perch have found success on Minnetaga, Lillian and Big Kandiyohi lakes. When the weather dries up a bit, get out on the area lakes as the fall bite should be here any day now!
Fishing Report for 9-25-18
Anglers continue to catch walleye on Minnetaga, Big Kandiyohi, Green, Willmar and Foot lakes. With the cooler temperatures, this would be the week to switch over to minnows on jigs or lindy rigs instead of crawlers. You could find some walleye along the weedlines as well as some northern pike. Panfish continue to head deeper, away from the shallow weeds.

Anglers are finding a good walleye bite on Minnetaga Lake and Big Kandiyohi Lake in the southern portion of the county. Pulling a bottom bouncer, spinner and crawler seems to work well. Stick to the 25-35 foot range if fishing for walleye on Green Lake. The bass anglers are excited to see the bass active on most area lakes.

Fewer anglers have been out to the lakes lately. Those finding time to search for the fish are catching walleye on Green Lake and panfish on Nest, Eagle, and Diamond lakes. This past Sunday was the West Central Bassmasters Green Lake Fall Classic with 50 boats registered. Both large and smallmouth bass were caught with the average size being 12-14 inches. With the start of school and fall schedules, not many anglers have made it out this past week. Those that have been out are catching good numbers of bass, northern pike, sunfish and a few small walleye on Eagle Lake. A note for fishermen, a new fish cleaning station for public use is located adjacent to the MN DNR parking lot for the Glacial Lakes State Trail, directly across from Mel’s Sport Shop along Highway 23.

Not as many anglers have been out lately. Walleye are still being caught on Green Lake in the 25-35 foot depths and on Eagle and Diamond lakes. The cool weather has brought about the sunfish and bass on Eagle and Diamond lakes as well. Water temperatures in the Willmar Lakes Area have dropped over the past week. With the shorter days and cooler nights, water temperatures should to continue to fall. Walleye anglers are taking fish from the 25-35 foot depth on Green Lake and along the weedlines on the shallower lakes. Darker water areas are also good when fishing shallower depths and breezy, cloudy days are usually best. Few anglers have been out lately. With the recent heat wave, surface water temperatures have bounced back so the best time to fish has been in the low light hours; early mornings and evenings. The walleye bite has picked up on Green Lake in the 25-35 foot range with crawlers or leeches working the best. Sunfish, bass, and northern pike are biting on most area lakes when anglers use a small jig or spinner rig tipped with a night crawler in the weed lines.

Anglers continue to find fish in their summer locations and patterns. Walleye are being pulled from the deeper areas of Eagle Lake and Diamond Lake as well as in the 25-35 foot depth on Green Lake. Sunfish have been very active on Andrew, Florida, Eagle, Diamond, Nest and Green lakes. Anglers are using crawlers, leeches and wax worms for the most success.

The walleye bite has quieted down a bit in the area with only a few being pulled from Green, Nest, Eagle and Diamond lakes. Anglers have had success pulling crank baits in the shallows in the evenings. Sunfish and crappie have been biting everywhere, but especially on Nest, Eagle, Diamond, Green, and Foot lakes. Leeches, crawlers and wax worms seem to bring about the most action these days.

Fishing has slowed down just a bit with the many rainy days. Reports are still good for walleye and panfish on Diamond, Eagle and Nest lakes. Anglers have found walleye in the shallows while pulling plugs in the evenings on Green Lake as well as in the 25-35 foot range. Shore fishing still remains popular on Foot, Nest and Diamond lakes.
