Window boxes overflowing with flowers and a plate of fresh-baked cookies on your table tell you this resort specializes in hominess and hospitality. Fourth-generation owners Bob and Connie Dickerson want guests to “build sandcastles and memories.”

The 13 nicely decorated cocoa-brown cottages stand steps from the shore of shimmering Lake Florida. Each of the fully furnished cottages has a deck with a picnic table and chairs. The cottages range in size from 1 to 5 bedrooms, sleeping up to 10 people so a family can invite grandma and grandpa to join them. The resort is located 6 miles west of the quiet resort town of Spicer in the Little Crow Lakes Area of west-central Minnesota, 95 miles west of Minneapolis/ St.Paul. Vacationers head straight for the beach to enjoy the free paddleboats, kayaks, hydro-bikes, sailboat, canoe and rowboats. There are also bikes, trikes and wagons of all sizes. The bikes can be used to tour the new Glacial Lakes State Trail. Motors for the fishing boats and a pontoon are available for rent.

The Dickersons create much of the fun for guests serving homemade doughnuts at Sunday morning “mixers” and hosting pizza parties, hayrides for the children and campfires for roasting marshmallows and making s’mores.

Lake Florida is a 705 acre, spring fed lake. The Lake is full of walleye, northern, largemouth bass, sunfish and crappies. Some of the best fishing for the children is off of the docks at the resort.

When planning your next vacation, come to Dickerson’s Lake Florida Resort, where Bob and Connie continue the tradition of gracious hospitality started over 80 years ago by Bob’s great grandparents.
