2nd Annual Schmidt-Berger Memorial Ride

The Legion of St. Michael – Lakes Area LEMC invites you to ride in honor of Officers Reed Schmidt and Trevor Berger, who courageously battled cancer. June 13 is set aside to recognize their service, their leadership, and the impact they had on their communities.

Kickstands up at 11:00 am, rain or shine
$20 per rider | $10 per passenger

The ride will include two stops. When riders return, there will be a DJ, hog roast, silent auction, and meat raffle.

Proceeds from the ride will go toward a law enforcement scholarship at Ridgewater College and K-9 programs.

Chief Reed W. Schmidt 1950 to 2023
Reed served in law enforcement for nearly 40 years. He began as a reserve officer in Perham in 1975, attended the academy in Arden Hills, and was hired by Perham Police Department. In 1982, he became Assistant Chief in Madison and later Chief of Police. He went on to serve in Goodview, Hennepin County Medical Center, and Atwater, where he was appointed Chief in 1996.
In 2003 and 2004, he deployed to Iraq as a civilian contractor training the Iraqi National Police. In 2006, he sustained a serious line of duty injury resulting in the loss of his right eye. He continued working and officially retired in 2012, remaining part time with Atwater PD until 2015. Reed valued law enforcement, his family, motorcycle riding, and his K-9 partners Max, Fritz, and Dakota.

Chief Trevor J. Berger 1979 to 2022
Trevor was raised in Atwater and graduated from ACGC High School in 1998. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Nassau until 2001. After discharge, he completed a law enforcement degree at Alexandria Technical College.
He worked at McLeod County Jail, Silver Lake Police Department, and held part time roles with Eden Valley and Atwater Police Departments. He later became Chief of Police in Atwater. He led with a direct and practical approach until illness required his retirement in 2021. Trevor was known for his personality, loyalty, and commitment to his community.
