Sibley State Park Fall Color Report for 9-28-17

Where to go
Hike the Mt. Tom Trail for fall colors of the Oak Savanna and other leaves. The Pond View Trail and Parker / Fremberg Trail offer views of the last of the wildflowers and grasses. Climb the Mt. Tom lookout to get a bird’s eye view of tree tops and the surrounding landscape.

What you’ll see
Big Bluestem and Indian Grass are fully mature, adding deep maroon and gold to open meadows. Asters provide the last of the wildflower fall color, although a few Coneflowers and Goldenrod provide some yellows. Ash, Basswood, Hackberry and many under-story trees are beginning to shed their yellow leaves. Ash trees in particular add a striking bronze tone to the forest. Woodland vines add a splash of red here and there. Although not numerous, Maples add some brilliant orange and yellow to the landscape. Oaks are stubbornly holding their green color.
