“Sunrise at Midnight” at the Little Theatre at 7:30pm – Postponed
by Taous Claire Khazem, Dreamland Arts.

Blending dynamic theater and original songs, Sunrise at Midnight is a rare glimpse into the rich Kabyle Folktale tradition from Algeria virtually unknown elsewhere. A flute that possesses the power to upend life as we know it; a sexy cautionary tale for young men looking to marry too soon; a chilling sacrifice a leader must make, interweave to create an electrifying play of lust, wit and adventure.

Sunrise at Midnight is a retelling of three folktales for adults from the Kablyia region of Algeria. The stories are interwoven in a fast paced and dynamic physical theater style. These stories are not widely known outside of Algeria at all (even inside Algeria as the storytelling tradition has been lost). All dialogue was created in rehearsal through the actor’s own improvisations. The music is all original and was written inspired by Algerian folk music from Kabylia. This show is the first of it’s kind.

Content Warning: This show contains explicit sexual content, vulgar language, flashing light, and infanticide.
