The City of Willmar is actively shaping its future through the “With Willmar” comprehensive plan. This pivotal process involves the community in a series of phases designed to listen, learn, and develop strategies that reflect the residents’ vision for the city. Focusing on land use, mobility, economic opportunities, and more, the plan aims to maintain Willmar’s unique character while fostering growth and enhancing quality of life! The City of Willmar hosted an open house where residents shared their visions and goals through various engagement activities on July 25, 2024, at the Willmar Public Library. To continue developing the “WITH WILLMAR” document residents, business owners, and stakeholders are invited to the four workshops in August.

The comprehensive plan webpage is live at www.willmarmn.gov. The public is encouraged to visit the project webpage to learn more about the comprehensive plan and upcoming engagement opportunities. The surveys are available online until September 30, 2024. To obtain paper copies of the surveys, please visit City Hall (333 6th Street SW) or attend any workshop listed above.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A Comprehensive Plan provides strategic guidance and direction for the future growth and development of the community and establishes a 20-year vision for the City. A comprehensive plan is a foundational document that:
• Establishes and guides City policies and decisions.
• Combines City plans into one document.
• Provides the basis for zoning and land use decisions.
