Roseland, with a rural population of less than 500, was settled by Dutch immigrants in 1926 as a railroad stop for the Luce Line Railroad. Until the railroad was take out, Roseland was a growing town and in the 1960s was a popular place to play baseball. As the town stopped growing, houses replaced the baseball field.
