Water Colors and Quilts by Spicer Artist Loretta Fenske
Opening & Artist Reception held on Friday, October 6 from 4pm-6pm
Exhibit Dates: October 6 – December 14, 2017
Quilt making, fiber arts, watercolor painting and gardening have all blended together lately to be my favorite means of expression. They cooperate with each other in using color. The collection here has included some paintings “from the old days” and some current. I love to dig in the garden and dream about the bursts of color that will appear in the spring. The feeling is much the same when throwing a large array of fabrics on the floor to begin the creation of a flowery quilt. Some flowers smile up at you from the garden and some shout in your face. Quilts too. Watercolor continues to be a challenging and uncontrollable medium, and sort of a miracle if it turns out, so I soldier on, enjoying the journey.
Duluth is my hometown and I enjoy returning to the shores of Lake Superior, Canal Park, pine trees and birch and every inch of the North Shore. Graduating from University of Minnesota with a major in Art and English Education kept me in Minnesota where I taught both art and English. Later I retooled with an MA in Clinical Psychology and retired after 20 years in that field.
Now there is time for art.
The exhibit will be in the KCHS Community Room and the hours are Monday-Friday 9am-4pm.
