By Lisa Aasen

FALL into a fun weekend in Spicer! Whether you’re staying in a cabin on Green Lake, an RV at WestRich Campground or booked a fabulous resort stay at The Hampton Inn Green Lake Resort, a great weekend is in store for you! Follow the day-by-day itinerary of how to make the most out of your weekend adventure.

When you think of Spicer, you might be thinking summer fun. But that summer fun turns into great adventures in the fall in Spicer.

Friday itinerary: ARRIVE: You’ve arrived in Spicer which is located just a short hour and a half drive west of the Twin Cities and depending on your stay arrangements for the rest of the weekend, you might need to do some stocking of essential supplies. Start at the Green Lake Mall where you will find our local grocery store Teal’s Market. Teals has you covered for fresh produce, meat, baked goods and offers a full service deli. Right across the hall from Teals is Green Lake Liquors with all your beverage essentials…including wines not found in other area stores. Need a little more than just food and spirits? Spicer’s hometown hardware store, Bonnema Hardware has you covered for all other essentials you might need for your stay. So, now that you’ve unpacked and stocked up, it’s time to head out and enjoy the miles of Glacial Lakes State Trail that runs through Spicer. Walk, run, roller blade or bike down the trail and enjoy the natural beauty and color changing foliage along the trail while getting some exercise and fresh air. The sound of leaves crunching under your feet lets you know fall is definitely in the air! After a full day of outdoor activities it’s time to wind down for the evening. WINE & DINE at O’Neil’s in downtown Spicer directly across the street

The Glacial Lakes State Trail is a 22-mile trail located on a former Burlington Northern railroad grade between Willmar, Spicer, New London, Hawick, and the Kandiyohi/Stearns County line.

from Pirrotta Park and beautiful Green Lake. O’Neil’s offers great patio views even if you might need to wear a sweater. Forgot your sweater? Cozy up next to O’Neil’s fireplace on their patio after dinner and RELAX. Or, maybe a family movie night at Spicer Cinema is what’s in store for the evening. Be sure and top it off with an ice cream treat from the Dairy Queen. Ice cream is great any time of year and you will still probably want your sweater.

Saturday itinerary: SLEEP IN: After a busy first day and a refreshing good-nights sleep up you woke up in the mood for a good cup of coffee. Head on over to Jacked Up Coffee Co. for a great coffee, tea or smoothie. While you’re there, grab a delicious bakery item or breakfast burrito. Now it’s time to hit the LAKE! Fall fishing is GREAT on Green Lake! Make a one stop shop to pick up bait and supplies at Mel’s Sport Shop. From there you can easily drop your boat or pontoon into Green Lake at the DNR Boat Landing located directly across from Mel’s Sport Shop. Maybe a round of golf at Little Crow Country Club before or after hitting the lake is your thing? Little Crow offers a golf experience for everyone and has a great Club House for relaxing with food and drinks! Then, plan to spend your evening dancing! Whether it’s live music or a DJ, you can kick up your heels and dance the evening away at Zorbaz on Green Lake. If you stayed on the lake fishing and reading all day, just pull up to Zorbaz beach for music, great food and refreshments.

Green Lake is a fall fishing hot spot in the Willmar Lakes Area and a great place to catch some amazing fall colors.

Sunday itinerary: SHOP: Enjoy a warm and hearty breakfast at Westwood Cafe. The Fritter French Toast and the Lake Avenue omelet are the local favorites! After breakfast, take a short stroll set to fall music playing on the downtown speakers that will lead you to Urban Escape Boutique. You will find some new fall clothing favorites at Urban Escape and can purchase LOCAL made “Spicer” clothing and accessories to remind you of your weekend in Spicer.

The weekend flew by and it’s time to head home. You have some new fav fall memories to take with you. As you drive back, you can be thinking about your next weekend trip to Spicer. Fall, winter, spring, summer…all wonderful seasons that promise to host a wonderful time! Thank you for coming!
