Welcome to Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center. We are a non-profit education center committed to providing outstanding environmental education and outdoor experiences to people of all ages.
Deeply rooted in our Kandiyohi County community, we reach out to provide services for communities across Minnesota and the upper Midwest. Prairie Woods provides customized programs for organized groups on a reservation basis. Walk-in visitors are welcome to use hiking and ski trails during daylight hours throughout the year.
Cross country and hiking trails are open during daylight hours seven days a week. Enjoy beautiful 500-acre outdoor classroom featuring self-guided trails through prairie, woods and wetlands with 7 miles of hiking and groomed cross country ski trials. PWELC rents cross country ski’s and snowshoes for a minimal fee. Click here for a trail map.

A get-away for local companies or a central location for state-wide organizations, Prairie Woods ELC offers meeting spaces to accommodate a variety of group sizes up to 200. The Earl B. Olson West Addition, Westby Observatory, Linder Treehouse and Red Barn are all beautiful settings for productive meetings.
